I need a new computer
So I need a new computer, thing is I don't know jack about building one or what components are good or not. Anyone down for building me a computer? I want something to rival those Alienware computers.
Re: I need a new computer
It really depends on how much you want to spend to "rival" those of the Alienware types.
If you really don't have a limit. I do recommend getting a CPU with the new I7. I'll go further on, once I get an idea what you really want to do with a new PC.

Re: I need a new computer
I'm really just gonna use it to play FFXIV, but there's always gonna be something else. I was thinking about dropping around $1,500ish
Re: I need a new computer
Hmm... well if you're just going to use it for FFXIV, I don't think you need to spend that much at all.
You can get a decent motherboard with a kickass graphics card and all the accessories for around $700 or even less. Depends where you look.
Graphic wise, I'm not up-to-date on the newset card, so you're going to have to research it.
But, I do recommend a new I7 from Intel. However, you're going to need DDR3 RAM instead of the usual 800mhz DDR2 since the CPU is running at a higher proficiency.
Other than that, just get the essentials unless you really want to customize it out.
I'll keep posting if I see any news or deals online. ^_^
*Sorry for the deal, doing school work and crap =/ Yeah...Fall semester started for me =/*

Re: I need a new computer
Oh yeah, if you're an AMD kinda guy, nothing is wrong with them.
I had a bad experience with it on my last computer. I overclocked it and fried my motherboard.

Re: I need a new computer
just to play ffxi i would say grab a decent hp and use that they range from about 400 to about 700 for a decent one don't spend 1500 unless your building one your self its just a waste of money to buy a pc that says its 1500 but only really cost about 800 bucks
heres a few tricks that help picking a pc
1. look at cpu speed and type (i.e. Quad core, dual core) (i say anything over 2gig for a cpu is good
2. look at how much memory it can hold for its max amount and also what type it takes (ddr2, ddr3, blah blah blah) (here is the trick behind this IF A PC IS A 32BIT OS IT WILL ONLY SEE 4 GIGS OF MEMORY NO MORE WHAT SO EVER SWITCH TO 64.)
3 look at hard drive size about 500 gig is more then enough for the average user.
4 weather or not a pc has video cards that are built into the mother board or ones that are put onto the mother board (most pc's will have 1 Integrated and at least one spot to put a Dedicated video card) (i say dedicated is better)
5. Type of os that is one it. (ie xp,vista, mac, linux) (don't play ffxi on linux its a pain in the ass to set up and so is it on mac stick to xp or vista and make sure its on a 64 bit os trust me your be glad you did in about a year or so.)
i found you a few nice pc's that are not bad and not the best but they would work perfectly in your area and still not break the bank

Re: I need a new computer
It's not that I need an awesome pimped out computer, but that I WANT an awesome pimped out computer. I just want something that says BAM BITCH look at me!!!! Know what I mean? FFXIV will be the primary use that I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure they'll be other things as well.
Re: I need a new computer
Slash, he's talking about FF:XIV not XI.
His pc now can already run XI.
Anyways, if you're looking for that kind of status EoA, you can use Slash's link and take a gander at those. Otherwise, still a bit until FF:XIV comes out.
