According to these FFXIV scans, the new race names are Hyuran (Hume in FFXI), Lalafell (Tarutaru in FFXI), Elzen (Elvaan in FFXI), Miqo'te (Mithra in FFIX) and Roegadyn (Galka in FFXI).

Also, Jobs apparently have sub-classes. There's Fighter (swordsman, archer), Sorcerer (enchanter, warlock), Crafter (blacksmith, cook) and Gatherer (gardener, fishermen).

About customization:

"When you make your character, aside from choosing the race, you will also be able to customize their appearance. Head, skin color, hair type etc, there will be multiple factors. Just how exact we will be able to customize their appearance is still unknown, but we mean it in a good way when we say that it seems like it will become a worry to many players "

Looks like we'll finally be able to have unique characters, the way we want them!

Same races or not I really don't care about that. I just want to be able to customize 'em a little more. So far I think this new MMO is gonna be kick ass!!

The reason they used the same races is so that the game would have an element of familiarity. So that going into it from FFXI, you would still have a little common knowledge.

But honestly I don't really care if they had or hadn't.
